Finding the best event code to use for every day and simple needs is searchable by the report code field in the event code list (Setup -> Alarm processing setup -> Event code). Put in the report code CE and the list will be populated by the most often used and relevant event codes; the core event codes (CE). I'll add a short list below also.

05600 - Abort/cancel
05700 - Early open
05702 - Open
05710 - Fail to open

05752 - Close
05760 - Fail to close
05900 - Critical/environmental alarm
06001 - Trouble (phone call by operator)
06004 - Fire system trouble (phone call by operator)
06011 - Fire system supervisory (phone call by operator)
06021 - Fire system tamper (phone call by operator)
06031 - Low battery (phone call by operator)
06041 - Power loss (phone call by operator)
07300 - Restore
07450 - Missed timer test (logged only)
07451 - Missed timer test (alarm)
07500 - Timer test
If there is a need to do something that is not on the list of CE events, please ask for assistance.
A caution though, if you pick an event code with the report code VE, or SE, or none at all, you risk you signal not behaving as you intended. Also, if you have to use an event code that is something other than the default, it is recommended you use a CE event code.
